MassArt’s
Animated Alumni Giving Appeal

General Background

Institutional Advancement:
Our job in the Institutional Advancement Office is to raise funds for the college to help with expenses that student tuition and fees don’t fully cover - from keeping up facilities, to hiring the best professors, to increasing student scholarship and travel opportunities. One of the ways we do this is by asking MassArt alumni to make an annual financial contribution to the college.

Creative Alumni Appeals:
As you can see from the attached clip from Colgate University, some colleges are coming up with clever ways to engage their alumni in giving and to remind them to pursue matching donations from the companies they work for to double their impact.

The Importance of Alumni Participation:
The rate at which alumni donate to their alma mater affects more than the college’s budget, it influences how the college is perceived by outsiders, from prospective students to prospective employers – and a high alumni participation rate improves our ability to earn grant money from foundations and affects how well the school is ranked.

After sending the “Donation Clonation” animation in an email blast to their alums, Colgate University reported an alumni giving rate of 32%. The alumni participation rate at MassArt is around 9%, and we would like to see that number improve.

Project Specific

MassArt Pride:
As a free standing state art school, MassArt occupies a truly unique place in the world of higher education in this country. We want to showcase to our alums the independent spirit, departmental competition and incredible creativity that is alive and thriving at MassArt, and there is no one better suited to capture and convey this than our current students.

Project Description:
Together with the Graphic Design Society, the Institutional Advancement Office would like to come up with a short, creative and compelling appeal to reach out to our alums, increase our alumni giving participation rates and encourage alums to double the impact of their donation by pursuing a matching gift from their employers.

Timeline:
We think this would be a great project to put out next spring, and know that everyone would take special pride in it being produced by MassArt students. We will be accepting project proposals between now and December 3rd with the goal of producing a two to three minute piece over the Winter Break.

Proposals:
Please send project proposals, including concept/theme, character list/descriptions and general content/dialogue to Elizabeth at elizabeth.audley@massart.edu by December 3rd, 2007. Please include a budget with your proposal and feel free to contact Elizabeth with any questions.

Budget:
Please submit a detailed budget along with your project proposal for evaluation by the Institutional Advancement Office.

GDS meeting 10/30/07

Hey All

GDS will be meeting Tues. 10/30/07, 5:20 in the student center.
We have a special guest, Elizabeth Audley works in the Institutional Advancement Office and she’s looking for design student(s) to work on a fundraising project they are working on. This could be a good opportunity for a nice portfolio piece. She’ll let us know what the project is and answer any questions we have.
I also want to discuss some good news regarding a NY trip next semester, and we can talk about what an awesome job we did on the sustainability show, and we can talk about anything else anyone has on their minds.

See you Tuesday
Isaiah

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Hello graphic design department,

First of all, I would like to thank everybody for your immediate support and involvement in the GDS projects. We haven't wasted any time, and because of it we have got the Godine Gallery for the sustainability poster exhibition this semester (which is awesome). This is a huge accomplishment amongst the bajillion more soon to come. However, the show will open on October 24th (20 days from today, yikes), so we don't have time to let up on this. In that case, lets get moving!:

CALL FOR WORK!!!

GDS is holding a poster show on the topic of ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY opening October 24th in the Godine Gallery. If you have done any posters on your own, or in poster design, regarding issues of sustainability (global warming, energy saving, consumption, etc), PLEASE SEND US YOUR POSTER! All of the posters should in some way engage the viewer in the thought of environmental sustainabillity awareness (ie: "oh shit, shit is fucked up" , "thats fucked up" , "fuck" , "haha" , "that's disgusting" , etc).

This is a great opportunity to present a strong body of GD work to the rest of the MassArt community.

Work can be any size over 18x24 inches and any color.

Please send a 72 PPI JPEG sample of your poster, with your name, email address, and phone #, to degraafdesign@gmail.com. One poster per student, so pick your hot fire.

BECAUSE THE SHOW IS OCTOBER 24TH, LETS MAKE THE DEADLINE NEXT WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10TH . i know this isn't alot of time but just dig up your poster file and send it to me, we need to move. Jurying will be shortly after deadline then we will go ahead with printing and so forth.

SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THIS AND GET ME THOSE FILES ASAP! andale andale.

call me if you need to 551-265-2317

P.S.- NEED PROMO POSTER AND POSTCARD
We will need a poster and postcard to promote the show. This is a great opportunity for someone who perhaps doesn’t have any work to submit but would like to be involved.
